Clogged fuel filter, or weak fuel pump.
Insufficient air flow means not enough air is moving for the task at hand. For example, a clogged filter will not let enough air through, creating insufficient air flow.
It doesn't have one. It uses a flapper type air flow meter which doesn't require an intake air temp measurement.
Insufficient fuel flow would be the most likely cause.
Plugged egr tube or a failed egr valve.
Trouble code P0401 means: Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected

If it's not different than my 92' then it's inside the air flow meter. I belive it to be a little white plastic appendage inside the inlet.

The Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor on a Mazda Miata is on the right side of the engine, when looking directly at the engine. It's a black, tube about 4" long, and connects right into the large, plastic black air box.
