what cause a grand prix to not have a lot of power going up a hill or free way?
It may be in need of a tune up including air and fuel filters.

Just had a rebuilt transmission still have no power going up hill
If you are driving a loaded tractor trailer, you would downshift to gain more power when going up hill and downshift to control speed when going down hill.
There could be many reasons why a car will lack power when going up a hill. The car could need a tune up or the transmission maybe having problems.
This is a vacuum issue, as your demand on the engine increases (power to climb the hill) so does the vacuum created by the engine by increased acceleration...this causes the vacuum operated controls in the airbox to switch position.
you need to change ur fuel pump which is in the tank or ur fuel filter or spark plugs or wires try ur pump first though
The downshift causes the engine to turn at a slower rate. This causes the wheels of the car and the engine to be more similar and gives more of an emphasis on producing power versus a top speed which is achieved in a higher gear. Alternate answer: An internal combustion engine only develops power when it is turning between a narrow band of revs. usually between 3000 and 6000 rpm on the average car. The hill puts a heavy load on the engine and causes it to slow down. Shifting to a lower gear (actually a higher gear ratio), allows the engine to speed up and develop more power to cope with the hill.
replace fuel filter
Change the coils .
lacks power going up hill
If a 1994 Trooper loses power going up hill and has a spark knock in the engine, the compression of the engine should be checked. It is possible that the vehicle is not running on all of its cylinders.
That smell is probably your clutch burning out.
