Net hp at the rear wheels if an automatic is probably around 145. If a stick car probably 160-165 net hp.

I had the problem on a 1994 with V6, sounds similiar. I think the problem stems from the safety locking mechanism that requires the brake pedal be depressed prior to shifting.
The skin of a drum is pulled tight over the rim. This gives it some elasticity, which forces the drum stick upwards when it has been hit.

A 350 will easily fit but you could install a larger engine with major modifications. Stick with a 350 which was the optional engine in Firebirds. You will have to change the ECU also, so a donor car would be the easiest. If I were in your shoes, I would sell this Firebird and purchase one with a 350 already installed. You would be money ahead in the long run.
If they are losing strenght, first try spraying silicone lube into the rubber weatherstrips where the window rides. A lot of times they become dry causing the windows to stick. If this does not help, unfurtunely you will have to replace the window motors. I have done many of these
If it is a stick shift or manual, you may be stalling it. a way to stop this could be to place the clutch all the way to the floor.
