Brake Light Troubleshooting (check in this order):
Most likely its the fuse or a burnt bulb breaking the circuit. See sources and related links below for bulb information. Sometimes the license plate and/or the trailer hitch is wired into other circuits and can cause issues in other areas. Sometimes its wires grounding out somewhere on the vehicle. you have bad contact in ground cable of the brake lights You might also like to check that there has not been a bulb replacement lately that uses a single contact in a double contact socket. This would have the effect of shorting the brake and tail light inputs and thus turn on ALL lights when brakes are applied or the parking lights turned on.
usually it is a fault with the brake light switch located on the brake pedal arm. there is a plastic button that sometimes disintegrates and no longer allows contact with the switch. Check that first. You can find a replacement by using a body fastener.
Check the bulbs, the fuse and the brake light switch.
