Oxygen sensor, Transmission overheating, Idle Air Contole Vale, Mass Air Flow Sensor, Emissions related equipment...ETC There are dozens of reasons, you need to have a scanner plugged into your OBD2 port and scanned for codes. From those codes you will find out what you need to do to correct the problem. These codes may or may not end up costing you hundreds to fix. But it is extremely important to get this checked before driveability problems arise.
If it is solid, there is a problem with your fuel economy system. For example your gass cap may be loose. Another cause could be if you changed your tires to a different size that is not recommended for the make and model.
If it is blinking then you have a problem with your ignition system. For example you may have a misfiring spark plug.
If you read your owners manual all the warning lights are explained in detail. If you do not have your owners manual then I recomend that you buy one and keep it in your glove box. It will also tell you how to reset your change oil light after you do and oil change, so it will track it properly for you.
Check the catlytic converter for blockage
If your Chevy trailblazer 2004 gauges are not working, check your fuel pump.
There are pages and pages of things that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked with a scantool. Then the code can be diagnosed and repaired.
check cat converter if it has 75000 miles or more
The check engine light sets a code for diagnostics and you need a code reader. Most auto parts stores sell code readers and most will check the codes for free.
Check the fuses first
First check the fuses.
It sounds like your fan clutch is bad.
Take it to a local PepBoys they can scan if you have a check engine light on and from there I can help you more with diagnosing a misfire incase you have multiple problems
If you don't have a code reader you can disconnect the battery cable for a couple of minutes and that will reset the light
If it is an automatic, the fluid should be at operating temperature. The transmission in park and the engine at idle. Remove the dipstick and wipe it dry and check the level. Do not overfill.
