When hail stones hit your roof, it punches through the integrity of shingle tabs, exposing the tar sheets underneath. From this time onward, whenever it rains, tar will seep out from these impact points to create these dark streaks. Insurance companies would like you to believe that it is mold but it is not. If it were mold, then it would be on all roof slopes. They appear on roof slopes facing a certain direction, because when hail falls, it falls at a consistent angle. Roof slopes most perpendicular to the paths of the hail stones will receive the deepest damage of hail stones and most dark streaks.
Strearks on roof
Yes. Up to 20-40 degrees in the top part of your house. If its cold climate get dark to help melt snow on roof and white for hot climate to deflect the sun. or a grey type for in the middle. Then again alot of houses dont look good with white looking shingles. Get what looks good and try to go light or dark the most you can to save on them bills...
White material reflects thermal radiation whereas black and other dark colors absorb more of it, so a dark color roof will get warmer and pass more heat into the house by convection and radiation. Me, if I lived in a cool climate, I would want a dark colored roof. If I lived in a warm climate I would want a light colored roof. I was a HVAC service tech for 38 years.
The white streaks you’re seeing are oxidation run-off from the gel-coat on your roof fiberglass. Oxidation is a result of the sun’s UV exposure on the gel coat. Try a solution of one cup of detergent and a gallon of warm water to remove the streaks. Add a cup of bleach to this solution to take care of any mildew that may have formed on your roof. If the streaks remain after washing with the soap solution, look for a fiberglass cleaning product that should be readily available at any good RV or marine accessory store. To prevent the oxidation from recurring, apply a coating of RV Roof Magic to your RV roof every six months to year depending on the level of sun exposure.
I have no idea, but mine is peeling like an orange. Its dark green and the roof and hood have peeled badly!
it is the roof that is what on the top a roof
Most believe that the only function of a roof covering is to provide a material to shed water, but of equal importance is its ability to provide thermal protection. In a house with a cathedral ceiling, the roof forms the ceilings of the rooms below. A dark colored shingle will affect the interior environment by absorbing solar heat from the sun during the day. This same roof, on a clear, cool night will transmit more heat from the house than would a light colored roof. A white or nearly white roof will reflect solar radiation during the day and will not radiate much heat at night. Unfortunately the roof has to stay relatively clean if it is to function properly.
