The owners guide for my '04 Endeavor says do not disconnect the battery I think, or the on board diagnostic record will be lost. maybe this would also clear the service engine light?
I HAVE A 2004 MITSUBISHI ENDEAVOR, AND THE ONLY TIME MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IS WHEN I FAILED TO CLOSE MY GAS CAP TIGHTLY. THE LONGEST THE LIGHT STAYED ON WAS FOR 3 DAYS AND THEN IT WENT OFF.
The proper course of action is to have the car serviced by an authorized garage, who will reset the service light when they're done.
The Service Engine or Check Engine light comes on when the ECU has detected a problem with the emissions system. Do not ignore this light even if the engine seems to be running fine. Failure to repair this can cause damage to the catalytic converter especially if the vehicle is not running good or using excess fuel.
The power steering pump is located(looking at engine from front of car) on the bottom of the engine on the left side.
The Engine Control Module (ECM) probably has to be flashed to relearn the new cluster. This is a job for the Mitsubishi dealer.

Look under the passenger side of the engine, it is on the posterior-inferior portion of the oil pan.

How do I get the code
If the 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage won't start and has the service engine light on, you probably have an issue with a sensor. This could be a problem with an electrical or oxygen sensor.
