the egg is larger than the sperm cell
Two sperm, one egg - no. Two sperm, two eggs - yes.
sperm cells are found in the soil to fertilize the eggs
Frogs use external fertilisation, this means that the female frog lays thousands of eggs, but then the male sprays sperm on the offspring to fertilise it. So basically the sperm cell and egg cell meet when the male sprays his sperm cells over the eggs.
In sexual reproduction, a sperm and egg cell unite to form the first cell of the new offspring.
The process to make either an egg cell or a sperm cell is meiosis.
Because mitosis creates duplicates of cells with complete copies of the chromosomes in each cell made. For eggs and sperm cells the cell division process has to end up with the eggs and sperm having just 1/2 of the chromosome numbers in each cell made. Eggs and sperm are therefore produced by 'meiosis' and not 'mitosis'.
Germ cells are haploid reproductive cells that are similar to sperm or eggs. They are produced through meiosis and are responsible for carrying genetic material from one generation to the next during sexual reproduction.
Sex cells: sperm and eggs. These are produced my meiosis.
The female chicken lays eggs. the male chicken's sperm cell fertilizes the female chicken's egg cell from the eggs. the sperm cell is thousands. all of them are trying to fertilize one egg cell. But only one sperm cell can be successful.
Gametes (sperm and eggs) contain only one sex chromosome.
Gametes (sperm and eggs) contain only one sex chromosome.
The cell formed after fertilization by sperm and egg is called a zygote. A zygote is a diploid cell, meaning a cell that has two sets of chromosomes (one from egg, one from sperm).
