that's actually a trick question. Cellular respiration takes place in 3 stages being glycolysis, the citric acid cycle, and the electron transport chain. Glycolysis takes place in the cytoplasm of the cell and the citric acid cycle and electron transport chain take place in the mitochondria of the cell. If you in 7-8th grade the answer would be mitochondria. If you are in high school Biology I would say cytoplasm and mitochondria.

Energy is extracted from nutrient molecules through the process of glycolysis. The energy that is released is stored in ATP molecules, which is the energy currency of the cell.
