In 1960, the sit-ins took place in Greensboro and Nashville. Many of the students which took part were expelled from their schools and they were also beaten.
1961: Freedom Rides. This saw the worst violence against the movement ever.
1963: Birmingham. MLK was hoping the racist reaction would go that far- the police used dogs and fire hoses on the marchers. Many were injured.
Albany. This used the same technique as in Birmingham but it didn't work. Made MLK look bad
1965: March on Selma. This was Bloody Sunday. MLK was described as 'a white puppet' by Malcolm X.
Malcolm X also contradicted the non-violence.
