Many Germans couldn't speak English, so they had difficulty communicating and trying to find a job. Also, many Americans discrimminated against immigrants. They felt that the immigrants didn't respect them or their homeland. Americans would often judge immigrants by their home country, for example, if a German moved to the U.S during World War II, the Americans would assume they were in alliance with the Nazis. Germans often changed their names when they moved to America.
