Consisting of 95.3% carbon dioxide,2.7% nitrogen, and 1.6% argon. Mars's atmosphere does not resemble Earth's and would be poisonous to humans even if there were enough to breathe. It is 200 times thinner than air on Earth, with air pressure at the surface only 0.01 % that the Earth

You mean without bringing your own micro-environment? Probably you'd have to be a bacterium. Mars is desperately dry, has less than 1% of Earth's atmosphere (with almost none of that being Oxygen), has temperature swings from almost comfortable to colder than the South Pole and (due to the missing atmosphere) gets a blast of solar radiation that would be lethal in the long-term to anything else.

In better times, when Mars presumably had air and water, a complex creature (like a person) could have been pretty much like its Earth counterpart, except that it could be much bigger, due to the weaker gravity (which was the cause of the loss of air and water).

Well,

You would need an atmosphere, warmer climate (averages -100* C)

And Tim Hortons.

They would have to learn to live in arid, oxygen-lacking environments. Oh and of course survive extreme temperatures far below freezing point.

You cannot adapt. You can get used to the temperatures and the lower gravity.

However you cannot live without oxygen and water. Neither of which exist in any abundance on Mars

The reason why Mars has no water because its atmosphere is too thin, so the sun vapoured all the water on Mars and it does not have any plants to make it rain there.
