wow, really people
The reactor that had the explosion in entombed. The actual structure is problematical because it will not last nearly long enough. The other reactors have remained in use since the accident. The area around Chernobyl was, and remains, evacuated. A broader area has been taken out of use for various purposes, such as agriculture. Forest fires have to be carefully dealt with because the fires put radioactive materials into the atmosphere. People in the area have health problems that require attention, and the people who have not developed diseases need to be checked carefully for them.
Thankfully there haven't been many nuclear accidents, however when they do happen they can be severe the worst nuclear accident/disaster was the explosion of reactor No.4 at the Chernobyl Nuclear power plant in 1986 on April the 26th.

The main thing to realise is that the Russian RBMK design reactor has only been built in Russia and former Soviet Bloc countries, so the lessons learned are not on the whole applicable. I know that various design changes were made and incorporated in reactors of that type which were still operating subsequent to Chernobyl, but it is still not a design that would be built in the future. The main lesson in general terms is to consider very carefully any experiment to be carried out on a reactor, to make sure the procedure is written up carefully and thoroughly, to make sure the operators understand what is going to be done, and to have a team standing by to advise the operators as it is carried out. Needless to say, the overriding of safety systems which was part of the reason for the Chernobyl failure must not be allowed. I know for a fact that this would not be allowed in the UK, but of course can't vouch for every country that uses nuclear power. This is one of the unknowns- in countries where the rule of law is somewhat flexible and liable to be broken by over powerful politicians, one can't have full confidence that scientist's advice will always be listened to. As far as other reactor designs go, certainly Chernobyl would have caused scientists and engineers to think through their safety analysis again, but I doubt if anything positive came out. Diversity of safety shutdown systems for instance was already part of the AGR design and not added after Chernobyl. For the PWR design in the US and elsewhere it was the Three Mile Island incident in 1979 that made people sit up and realise that some aspects of the design needed strengthening, rather than the Chernobyl experience.

The Fukushima Daiichi accident has been rated as a level 7, matching Chernobyl, according to several governments commenting. Whether it is not quite as bad as Chernobyl, as bad as Chernobyl, or worse, remains to be seen, and cannot be known for some time.
25 years in April 2011
31 people were killed in the immediate accident and 1,800 children have thus far been diagnosed with thyroid cancer. In a study published in May 2001Many people living in and around Chernobyl before the disaster suffered radiation poisoning and related radiation illnesses such as cancer.
Chernobyl was the worst accident of it's type in the history of nuclear power generating plants. As bad as the sad situation with the nuclear power plant in Japan is right now, it is not nearly of the scope of Chernobyl. Because the situation was so bad, and because there have been 25 years to study and evaluate it, the iterature that has been built up on "The Chernobyl Incident" is invaluable to the field of "Nuclear Energy Accidents".
No, But weather can move radiation around if it is already in the air like it has been with the Fukushima accident in Japan and then back in Europe in the Chernobyl event.
how many of these changes have been adopted since 1787
Chernoyl Diaries is a fictional movie that uses the accident at Chernobyl as a backdrop for the story. So, yes it's based on the radioactive outburst that occurred in Chernobyl but there have been no stories about "extreme tourists" being attacked their by paranomal things, but people have claimed to hear childen voices/crying at night and seeing phantoms
Chernobyl is a city in Ukraine. It was the site of a nuclear disaster in the 1980's and has since been totally abandoned. It is also featured on the Call of Duty game, Modern Warfare as the backdrop to a playable level.
