What is the ORAC value of hyaluronic acid?

What is ORAC?

Scientists developed techniques to measure the antioxidant capacity of foods, of which Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) is one. The ORAC assay, developed at the National Institute on Aging, measures the degree of inhibition of peroxy-radical-induced oxidation and includes both inhibition time and the extent of inhibition of oxidation. While ORAC scores do provide some measurable means to compare foods and antioxidant products, there are some problems with ORAC testing. One of the biggest problems is that the results are based on weight or volume, and can be manipulated based on removing water. Dried fruit, therefore, scores higher than fresh fruit.

What makes the o2 diet different from others?

The o2 diet is different from other diets because instead of counting calories, you are eating antioxident rich foods. You will not focus on calorie intake and how much food you consume, instead you will need to focus on eating foods that are high on the ORAC scale. www.fitsugar.com is where you can find more information.

Can you find the complete orac ratings on-line?

Go to the USDA.gov website. In the search box, type ORAC, or just type in part of the title of the actual report. I'm not positive how complete it is, but it rates a lot of different foods. Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) of Selected Foods - 2007 Prepared by Nutrient Data Laboratory Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center (BHNRC) Agricultural Research Service (ARS) U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in collaboration with Arkansas Children's Nutrition Center, ARS, USDA, Little Rock, AR November 2007

What is ORAC units?

First off, "ORAC Units" is plural, and so Im sure you meant to ask what ARE ORAC Units. (come on people i didnt even go to high school lol jk! no but i really didnt) ORAC is a system/unit of measurement standing for and quantifying Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity. As read on the back of my canister of 'Amazing Grass' (i swear im not trying to plug anything) brand antioxidant drink powder, which i use with my juicer, "Antioxidants ...help support the body's natural ability to neutralize free radicals. Their power is measured through a system called ORAC. Broccoli has 900 ORAC units per 3.5oz serving, and carrots, about 210 units". This particular brand boasts 15000 Units per very small (7g) scoop, and tastes fine. (although i already love the flavor of my juices. That sounds dirty...maybe i'll edit that part out.)

Easy to Folllow 02 Diet?

The o2 diet is easy to follow and consists of eating foods that are high in antioxidant content. Calories are not counted, and there are not any restrictions on the amount of food that is eaten. The diet begins with a four day cleanse that is followed by a four week diet. The foods that are eaten are fresh fruits, fresh vegetables and natural foods. The goal of this diet is to eat foods that add up to 30,000 ORAC points, which are the measurement of the antioxidants contained in the foods consumed. Some of the recommended foods include nuts, avocado, chicken breasts, berries, mango, papaya, broccoli, spinach, whole grain breads, soy milk, cottage cheese, lean meats, red wine, green tea, organic Greek yogurt and dark chocolate.

Why is the ANDI score of jicama root 75 and the ANDI score of an egg is only 27?

An Aggregate Nutrient Density Index (ANDI) score is assigned to foods based on the nutrients they contain per calorie. ANDI scores are calculated by evaluating an extensive range of micronutrients, including vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and antioxidant capacities. Specifically, they analyze Calcium, Carotenoids (Beta Carotene, Alpha Carotene, Lutein, Lycopene, and Zeaxanthin), Fiber, Folate, Glucosinolates, Iron, Magnesium, Niacin, Selenium, Vitamin B1 (Thiamin) Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin), Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Zinc, plus ORAC score X 2 (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity is a method of measuring the antioxidant or radical scavenging capacity of foods). Jicama root contains nearly three times the amount of these micronutrients per calorie than eggs do. Also, Jicama root contains no fat, which means it is far lower in calories than an egg, but also does not provide the healthy benefits of Omega 3 fats contained in eggs. This is the primary weakness of the ANDI score.
