I'm not sure what you are referring to by "disk management." There are many utilities to check disk usage, delete files, and manage space quotas.
Restart and hold down the Shift key as your Mac starts up. This will automatically check some files and stop some files from loading. Open Disk Utility. Select the start up drive. Click 'Repair Permissions.' and let it finish. Restart. If the problem still is there, insert the 'Install Disk 1.' Restart while holding the C key down. It will take longer. The disk utility is in a folder on the cd. Find it and run it. Select the start up drive. Click 'Repair Disk.' Wait. Restart.

Almost all Unix/Linux systems use the 'df' command to find out how big the partition is, how much is in use, and the percentage of the system in use. This command must be used in a command window.

chkdsk /r Locates bad sectors and recovers readable information. chkdsk /f Fixes errors on the disk. The disk must be locked. If chkdsk cannot lock the drive, a message appears that asks you if you want to check the drive the next time you restart the computer. chkdsk /p Performs an exhaustive check even if the drive is not marked for chkdsk to run. This parameter does not make any changes to the drive.

Under Check disk options, select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box. Notes To open My Computer, click Start, and then click My Computer. All files must be closed for this process to run. If the volume is currently in use, a message box will appear prompting you to indicate whether or not you want to reschedule the disk checking for the next time you restart your system. Then, the next time you restart your system, disk checking will run. Your volume will not be available to perform other tasks while this process is running. If your volume is formatted as NTFS, Windows automatically logs all file transactions, replaces bad clusters, and stores copies of key information for all files on the NTFS volume.
