Unless it's electric, it HAS to be vented... If it's not vented it's in violation to UBC. It might be one of the newer furnaces that uses a high efficiency heat exchanger and the exhaust is vented through a plastic pipe, but it's still vented. Assuming you have one of those, just replace the air filter and see if there is any way to oil the motor. Everything else should be computer controlled.
