The cell wall found only in plant cells contain a substance known as cellulose. As such, they are often referred to by many scientists as the cellulose cell wall or cellulose wall.

The substance of a cell wall varies between species. Cellulose is not the only substance used in the cell walls of other species.

ALL cells have a cell membrane which is made of a phospholipid bilayer (except bacteria) with various proteins attached or permeating the membrane. Plants have their cell membranes enclosed/protected by a cell wall composed of the carbohydrate known as cellulose. Fungi have cell walls made of the carbohydrate known as chitin.
