U. S. Constitution was influenced by Edward Coke who emphasized the importance of civil liberties. The Bill of Rights is especially focused on protecting civil liberties by listing ideals such as freedom of speech, separation of church and state, and the right to trial. These rights cannot be hindered or manipulated by the government.
These are stated in the Bill of Rights, the first 10 amendments. They include freedom of speech, religion and petition, the right to a militia (bear and hold arms) , conditions for quartering soldiers, right of search and seizure regulations (warrants and just cause), prosecution provisions (right to face your accuser, right to withhold information incriminating your self, Habeus Corpus, innocent until proven guilty) speedy trial, jury of your peers and protection from cruel and unusual punishment. (bill of rights)
The Framers of the US Constitution who were not Federalists feared a strong central government. Because of this ten amendments were attached to the US Constitution. These 10, called the Bill of Rights, were an added protection against a central government that might become too powerful.
The Constitution really grants us zero liberties or rights. It acknowledges that we are born with certain rights and that the Government is not supposed to limit or take away from those rights. The Constitution grants the Government certain limited rights over us to make a civil and useful society. Other then those limitations we allow the Government to have under the constitution, we are free to do what we wish. The Constitution gives our Government certain (very limited) rights and liberties. We have chosen to allow our Government to have these rights to allow for a working society.

The founding fathers of the USA believed that individuals were born free, and that freedom was a gift from God. With that said, the US republic was so devised and was ruled by a fair central government as described in its founding document, the US Constitution.
