NO, something smaller like fish or hamsters would be better.
Hamsters, fish and bunnies usually make good class pets. You wouldn't want something to big like a cat or dog. And you wouldn't want anything noisy. However bunnies and hamsters can be pretty distracting during class, it depends on the personalities of the students. It also depends on if any student has any alergies.
How long do they live? what do they eat? how much do they sleep? when do they sleep? why do they run on a wheel? do they like to live with other hamsters or by themselves? do they like pizza? (don't know how old your class is) do boy and girl hamsters look different? do they like to be in the dark or the light? where do they come from? where do they live in the wild?
They both can be trained and mice usually bite a more often than hamsters do.
They are both rodents and mammals. The order Rodentia is just one part of the greater Mammalia class.
