There are 28 colleges of veterinary medicine in the United States with another 5 in Canada. All of these schools will give you excellent training in becoming a veterinarian, but some schools are known for their focus in certain areas. For instance, Cornell University is fairly well known for its exotic animal focus. The schools in the American Midwest (Ohio State University, Purdue University, University of Illinois, University of Minnesota, Iowa State University and Kansas State University) are more known for turning out well-rounded general practitioners.
