The cause of Jupiter's surface color is its clouds and atmosphere. Because it is a gas planet, its atmosphere is composed of helium, methane, some ammonia, water vapor and liquid hydrogen. its colorful bands are caused by strong atmosphere currents and accentuated by dense cloud cover.
