if you check out a aftermarket radio adaptor plug (sold at most auto supply stores ) they have the same color wires as the stock wires and a guide of what goes to what.

If you hard wired the after market radio it is possible you are using the wrong power wire. If you are using a harness make sure the wires are hooked up properly. it is possible that you need to use an alternative power source.


Its fairly simple. you will need to unscrew your dash and pull off the front plate of your dash, then you will need to unscrew the stock radio, then you will need to go ahead and pull out the adapter from the back of your radio. Next you will need to attach your adapter harness to your car harness and splice the color coded wires to the harness on your new CD player.-Shocker


Every wire behind the radio is seperately labeled as to where it goes.

yes you can remove the stock radio and put in an aftermarket radio in the chevy s10. I have a 1990 s10 pickup. You will have some extra unconnected wired with the aftermarket radio but do worry it will work all the same. the wires are color coded to match each other for the most part except for the speaker wires they may be different but will be labeled on the new unit as to what is what. good luck hope ive been helpfull



put in the stock radio, does your car start, if it does then its the radio causing the problem, if not then more problems then the radio. if it does start with the stock radio in i would think the aftermarket radio is causing some kind of fault in the car, perhaps the radio is sending a faulty message in the i-bus telling the car not to start. i would jump out any bus wires so they are not routed through the aftermarket radio and see what happens. good luck.


A radio losing power when you turn on your headlights indicates the wiring is crossed. The wiring harness will have dozens of wires in it. When 2 wires are bared and touching each other, they can short each other out.

There also might be an Orange wire that is not needed for an after market head unit. It is much easier to buy the adapter plugs for the after market unit, those you just match the wires from the unit to adapter color by color. As an after thought, you could hook the power and ground first then test each speaker one at a time to get the fader and balance correct. (it's been about 14 years since I had to mess with wires with the plugs cut off.)

Seems like the connector would be the same, if it is, just plug it in and it should work regardless of the color of the wires. If the plug is different you can us your test light to find the power when the key is off and when the key is on, then by connecting two wires at a time (like there might be a light green and a dark green for one speaker, light blue and dark blue for another, etc.) you can figure out which wires are for which speaker by playing with the balance and fade controls, get it? Power for most radios is yellow for the clock, red for the radio, black is usually ground.

I lost the wiring colors codes but it's fairly easy. The key is to find out what the color codes are for the vehicle your connecting the radio to. After that, yellow and red wires on the 2500 are your positive and negative, and the remaining wires are Speaker wires - FRONT Left, FRONT Right, REAR Left, REAR right. Once your power wires are connected just connect speakers to each set of matching color wires and mark which speaker comes on.
