Note that while water does have a slight bluish color, it is mostly transparent. This is because the molecule does not absorb any light in the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum (no light that we can see).

What most often gives water its color, for instance in a lake, river, or ocean, is not the color of the water itself, but rather the color of things in it, like plants or seaweed, sediment, or other substances. Also, reflection off the surface of the water often make the water take on the color of whatever is being reflected.
