There is no one particular color to make a person look tan. Your underlying skin tone determines how you will reflect a quality of a color and appear tan (or pale). Many times a light to medium olive will make people appear tanned, especially if the person has an olive undertone to their skin. A good way to determine the "tanning" color for you is to hold a color (say, a shirt) up to your neck while looking at yourself in a mirror. If you try this with several different colors you'll see the difference colors make on your skin tone.
