1968's were a redish orange color. A very few were blue but i haven't found any reason why or when the switch. I have a '69 340 with a blue engine (original) but have seen red on other 69's.

i have two barracudas, a 68 340 fastback 4 speed formula s and a 69 383 fastback 4 speed formula s. Chrysler did not have any consistency in its engine colors during most of the 1960s. engines were painted either red or "Chrysler blue" - a turquoise type of color. i bought a new 340 formula s in 1968 and it had a red engine. my current 69 is all original and its 383 is Chrysler blue/turquoise. in 1970, all 340, 383,440, 426 engines were painted orange.
The engine is Buick red..... I had a GS 340 that was parted, but I still have the engine in reserve for verification.... The 340 in the non GS (ie- Sportwagon was a blue- green color), the 300's were the same color.
Orange....
Jack engine up to take weight and pressure off old, unbolt and replace
That all depends on the engine in the car and what rearend you have but a 340 cuda could run high 13's to low 14 seconds.
I have changed the mounts on my 72 cuda 340, and they were both the same.
red and it is not a nail head motor
The Barracuda was the only Plymouth in '69 to come with a 340.
A Dodge Dart or Plymouth Barracuda with a 383 or 440 from 1967-1969. The 273 & 340 were more performance cars. The Hemi Darts and Barracudas of 1968, were non-streetable race cars with plenty of muscle, but not available to the general public.
Not sure about the Numbers Try Here perhaps they can help.An whatever you do Hang onto that Cuda they are Great cars.Good Luck and Remember.Change Your Mind, Not Your Oil.Use the First In Synthetic Motor Oil's.See My Bio For more information.Gfish: very rare, since all 340's ( except 6 bbl motors 290 bhp ) are rated at either 275 bhp, from 1968 to 71, or 245 later.
1960 through 1968.
Nothing, it's the same car (or fish) Actually there is a difference! It is basically the same car but the Cuda was the high perfomance model of the Barracuda. The title of a Cuda even says "Cuda", not "Barracuda". The Cuda usually had a 340 six pack, or a 383 Commando, or 440 with dual quads or six pack, or a Hemi. barracudas where slant 6 or 318 cudas where any 340 4barrel and above but all parts are the same bolth mopar e body
the 727 should bolt up to the 340. A 727 transmission from a slant 6 will not bolt up to a 340. Find one off of a 273,318, 340 or 360.
