Saint Valentine's Day, also known as Valentine's Day, is celebrated on the 14th of February each year through various countries, but mainly western countries. The day is celebrated in commemoration of Saint Valentinus (Latin for Valentine) who was a third century Roman saint. After his death, Saint Valentinus was buried on the Via Flaminia near Rome on 14 February. It is possible that other martyrologies came to be celebrated on the same day, such as Martyr Valentinus the Presbyter and Valentinus of Terni. The February 14 celebration was deleted from the General Roman Calendar of Saints in 1969 by Pope Paul VI.

Despite the historic and religious background, Saint Valentine in modern days is said by many to be the patron saint of lovers. The first recorded use of Saint Valentine's day being linked to romantic love was in 1382 in a Poem, "Parlement of Foules", by Geoffrey Chaucer. Modern celebration revolves mainly around giving flowers, chocolates, cards, and romantic gifts to your significant other, or perhaps someone you secretly have a crush on. Modern symbols include the winged Cupid, hearts and doves.
