The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration or better known as NOAA currently operates the National Weather Service.The history of this government organization began in 1890 as the Weather Bureau under the Department of Agriculture.In 1940 Roosevelt moves the Weather Bureau under the control of the Department of Commerce.In 1970 the former Environmental Science Services Administration or ESSA evolves into NOAA, and around the same time the National Weather Service (NWS) is created from the U.S. Weather Bureau. However, many of the projects undertaken by the National Weather Service are a joint effort between various departments.

The Civilian Conservation Corps was organized in the US in the 1930's to put people to work during the years of the Depression. It organized men into camps that resembled military camps and they were employed to build Parks and other conservation projects. The men learned new skills that allowed them to get a job.
