Best Answer

For domestic equipment, the only HD connector commonly available is the HDMI connector. This is a compact connector that carries digital video and audio signals. It also allows data to be encoded to prevent content being copied or stored other than on authorized devices. HDCP, the encoding standard used on HDMI connectors is tightly controlled and equipment manufacturers have little option other than to use HDMI with HDCP support.

There are a few examples of analog component HD interfaces but these are only found on older equipment. Composite interfaces that are common in SD equipment do not support HD signals at all. HD equipment that have composite connectors will only support SD signals through these connectors.

In the broadcast domain, HD SDI is the standard interface. This uses a single co-ax cable with BNC connectors and carries raw data up to 1.5 gigabit per second, the rate of uncompressed HD signals. This interface is not available in the domestic market.

What do you do if your HDTV is so old it does not have HDMI cable input?

As HDTV made its entrance to the market, HDMI was not available. Because of this, there are a handful of HD televisions that have only analog HD inputs or perhaps RGB inputs.HDMI was introduced by the television industry as a small and convenient connector for video, audio and control lines between a source and display. The interface is fully digital and happens to support an encryption system that prevents the signal being accessed for unauthorized recording and distribution. Unlike all other video interfaces, HDMI connectors are used under a commercial licence that restricts the use of them. One of the effective prohibitions is to use the connector in a device that decodes encrypted material to any un-encrypted signal such as analog HD links. For the unfortunate few that have HD televisions without HDMI ports, it is unlikely that there will be a method of watching commercial HD content. It is certainly worth contacting the manufacturer to see if they are able to offer upgrades that may solve the problem. OR if the TV has 'component' inputs, use them and the picture will look great, if that doesn't work, use the S-connector. You will still have use audio cables.

If a tv has HDmi is it HD and if you dont have a box how do i know if it is full HD?

An HDMI connector is an indication that the television is able to handle HD signals but note that it is not guaranteed to be HD compatible. HDMI is an HD video interface but it also handles SD signals and some SD equipment has an HDMI connector just for SD signals. If the TV says it is HD ready, then it will display HD signals delivered to it via the HDMI port or a built in tuner if it has an HD tuner. Handling HD signals does not define the television's screen resolution. Although HD signals use 1080 or 720 lines, televisions frequently have different display resolutions. The incoming signals are re-sized to fit the screen. "Full HD" normally, but not always, indicates that the screen has a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. This is the most common HD resolution and the image can be displayed without needing to process the image to make it fit the screen resolution. The only way to be sure of the capabilities of a television is to study the specifications in the manual. If the manual has been lost, most manufacturers have on line copies that can be freely obtained.

Is HD tv needed for freesat?

No, most freesat boxes have an analogue video and audio output in the form of a scart connector or phono connectors. These will connect to almost any television that has AV inputs. Freesat offers a selection of subscription free channels as standard definition with a rather smaller selection of HD channels for UK viewers. Freesat receivers are sold as standard definition or HD Freesat. Even the HD receivers normally have an anlogue output although it will only deliver SD signals. HD signals will be down converted to use the analogue outputs. Exact features vary from one model to another so it's important to check the specifications before buying. To take advantage of the HD quality, the HDMI signal connector needs to be used and of course, the television also needs to be an HD television with HDMI inputs.

How do you connect HD tv to a computer?

Some high-end HD TV's come with VGA connections. For these TV's, simply purchase a VGA cable. For those TV's without VGA, you can either buy an HD compatible video card to put into your computer, or a low-end video card with S-Video outputs. The S-Video option will give lower quality, but the cost is cheaper than the HD card. Depending on your computer, you may have an HDMI connector. Most HD TV's have one HDMI connector or more, in which case you can buy a male to male HDMI cable of the appropriate length, and connect the TV to the computer. Don't forget to program the input of the TV to use the HDMI port.

There is no Manual for the tv How can I be able to tell if the set has HD?

There are several ways to find out if the television is HD compatible. First, televisions are proud of their HD capabilities so they will normally say on the case that they are HD ready or that they can display 1080i or 1080p signals. All of these are indications that they will display HD. Next, look for an HDMI connector. With just a handful of exceptions, if there is no HDMI connector, it's not HD. If it does have and HMDI it is very likely to handle HD signals even if it needs to convert the signal to a lower resolution before displaying it on the screen. The definitive way to find out is to connect an HD source to it. If it displays an HD image from a Bluray player, for example, then it's HD The last option and probably the most reliable way is to contact the manufacuturer or even look up the model number ad manufacturer on the Internet. There are vast numbers of equipment manuals online so it is very likely that the manual will be found very quickly.

Do I need and High Definition TV to use an HD DVR?

You don't technically need an HDTV to use an HDDVR, but you won't actually be able to see the shows in HD if you don't have an HD TV. It seems pointless to pay extra for the HD feature when you can't even use it.
