If you are smart you'll be patient. When someone is going through a break up and has lost someone they loved it's a grieving process almost like losing that person to death. In fact, in many ways it is. It means you are left with good memories of the relationship that had been intimate and suddenly that person isn't there any longer. It takes time to heal from losing someone you loved and were replaced by perhaps another. Be there for this person and listen well. Offer what advice you can give, but the main thing is, let them go through the grieving process. In time they will get over it and move on and hopefully this person will see there is a lot more to you than just a friend.
