The two major religions in Africa are Christianity and Islam. Christianity was better introduced in to Africa when it was declared a state religion in 300 C.E. In 440 C.E. majority of kindgom was converted and Christianity was declared as the official state religion. Islam spread to Africa through Arab passage. There were also many Muslim Empires in Africa which of course influenced religion. Islam rapidly grew in the 20th century.
Islam did not spread the same way throughout all of Africa. In North Africa, Islam spread by conquest. In West Africa and along the Indian Ocean, Islam spread by contact between Muslim merchants and local Non-Muslims.
Islam and Christianity
Both Islam and Christianity religions were spread through people free choice and will. However, the early spread of Islam was through fighting against the pagans who were attacking Muslims from time to time. While the early wide spread of Christianity was through the convert of the emperor Constantine to Christianity and accordingly persuaded the empire people to convert to Christianity.
