A majority of the settlers not only brought diseases because of their filth (that the Indians were not immune to), but also brought starvation and poverty due to their greed for fashionable animal skins, greed for unique Indian possessions, and introduction of alchoholic beverage to the Indians. To the Indians the Americans were greedy and selfish barbarians who came to destroy them and take their land. Incidentally, scalping was also introduced by the British during the French and Indian war as a means of verification that the Indians were doing their job of killing the French.

What was the agreement that stopped settlers from moving farther west?

In 1763, King George the Second signed a proclamation prohibiting the western march of settlers, and ordered those who had already moved to return. The proclamation established the Appalachian mountains as the dividing line, and demanded that there be no further settlement attempts west of that area. It was an attempt to maintain peace with the native Americans, but ultimately contributed to the American Revolution and further bitterness between the colonists and the native tribes.

The armed conflict which pitted Native Americans against New Englanders in 1675 was led by?

At the center of this cataclysm was one man, Metacom, leader of the Pokanokets, a tribe within the Wampanoag Indian Federation. At an early age, when relations between the natives and settlers were less stressed, Metacom was given the nickname of King Philip by the English, because of his haughty mannerisms. One of the many ironies of this conflict is that Philip was the son of Massasoit -- the same Massasoit who had helped the Plymouth Pilgrims survive their first winter in the New World. A father's kindness would became a son's curse.
