Thomas Hobbes made a significant contribution to the Enlightenment by promoting the idea of a social contract and the need for a strong central government to maintain order and protect individual rights. His work influenced later thinkers like john Locke and Jean-Jacques Rousseau in developing political theories on the relationship between citizens and their government. Hobbes' emphasis on reason and logic in his writings also aligned with the Enlightenment's focus on rationalism and questioning traditional authority.
