Best Answer

It depends on the softness or hardness, soft water e.g amazon river is acidic so below pH 7 and is caused by things like decaying vegetation and the elements present in the surroundings. Hard water e.g african lakes are alkali so above pH 7, this is again caused by surrounding areas and elements such as calcium which make it alkali. In the aquarium it can be controlled by chemicals which you can buy at pet shops.

Does pH control the relative concentration of CO2 in water?

No. Rather, the CO2 concentration controls the pH. Other factors control concentration, such as temperature, pressure, contamination, and availability of CO2.

Why is water a good control in experiments?

Simply because it's stable, and it's pH neutral.

What is the environmental significance of pH?

Environmental Significance of pH: A controlled value of pH is desired in water supplies, sewage treatment and chemical process plants. In water supply pH is important for coagulation, disinfection, water softening and corrosion control. In biological treatment of waste water, pH is an important parameter, since organisms involved in treatment plants are operative within a certain pH range. According to Bangladesh Environment Conservation Rules (1997), drinking water standard for pH is 6.5-8.5.

How can you figure out what is making your pools pH balance high?

The pH of your pool should be ideally 7.4. this will change if you add chlorine as this will have the effect of raising pH which is why you need to control the pH with an Acid such as sodium bisulphate or marked up as pH minus (pH-) . Also when you add any water from the tap if the pH of incoming water is high then this will also change the pH. Watch out for low Total Alkalinity as this can cause pH bounce where you get fluctuating pH readings.

Why water don't used instead of buffer?

In many experiments, buffers are used instead of water becuase buffers control pH, whereas water does not.

What are the application of pH test in civil engineering?

pH stands for "potential Hydrogen". In the field of civil engineering, pH is a factor that is considered in corrosion control, coagulation and water softening. What do you do to control the pH of aquariums?

PH can be easily changed. Many water sources around the world usually come from alkaline or hard water. In order to increase pH, you could use chemicals or put crushed rock and shells to make the water alkaline. In order to decrease the pH, you could also use pH, or inject CO2. Another way of decreasing pH is to add drift wood to the aquarium, though driftwood tends to make the water color tea like.
