Amenhotep iv(Amun is pleased) changed his name to Akenaten(devote to Aten in Egypt).
Amenhotep IV changed his name to Akhenaten meaning "the spirit of Aton (the sun god)
Amun, the sun god. He wanted Egypt to be a monotheistic civilization, but the priests did not approve of this change. Almost immediately after Akhenaten died the priests change Egypt back into a polytheistic civilization.
He mandated worship of one god exclusively
The Eyptian people didn't accept Akhenaten because he was actually created by a pharaoh who wanted the Eyptian people to become monotheistic, or to have one god. And by the way, Akhenaten wasn't the sun god. His symbol looks like a sun though. I think Ra was the sun god.
Akhenaten, or Amenhotep IV, tried to change the Egyptian religion. He wanted everyone to worship the sun god, (not Ra, the element) Aten.
He changed the religion so everybody was mad at him so after he died king tut had to change it back to normal
Amenhotep IV, also known as Akhenaten
it will be decided in just one race
The Pharoah Akhenaten attempted to change the polytheistic religion of Egypt into a monotheistic one worshipping the Aten. Pharoah Akenaten was Tut's father. He forced priests of the numerous Egyption gods to quit their jobs. He destroyed all the temples exept for Aten. During his rein, P. A. forced everyone to worship 1 got...Aten. After the pharoah died, the people tried to erase his name from histoy and go back to the old religion.
His original name was Amenhotep IV. He then changed his name to Akhenaten. This was because he wanted to name himself after Aten the sun god.
his family is mostly unknown, but it widely thought that Akhenaten (Amenhotep IV) was his father, and that Akhenaten's daughter was King Tut's wife. Akhenaten is still known as the Heretic King, and is dishonored by the pharoas after him. he tried to change the entire religion of Egypt to the honor only the Sun God, Aten. His negligence led barbarians to invade Egypt and he fled from his capital, never to be seen again.
