wht costs are involved with the use of a credit card?

+++ That's repeated the question. The primary cost to you as card user is the interest on the loan, unless you pay it all off within the same month. How much interest you pay will depend not only on the debt ("credit" card is a bit of a misnomer!) but also on the time and repayments you make to pay it off.

With some bank accounts there may also be an "administration" or "management" fee but AFAIK these don't apply to normal credit-cards used in your own country.

If you use it abroad be aware that the exchange rate and any hidden bank fees may add to the repayment.

Businesses (in the UK at least - I don't know if this applies in the USA) are also charged by their own banks for card transactions! This explains why it can be cheaper to pay by cash or cheque - assuming you have the money to do so of course as an overdraught is likely to be much more expensive than the credit-card interest.

What is a consolidation credit card?

A consolidation credit card is a credit card someone will pick to use as their sole credit card for everyday expenses which typically has the lowest interest rate or the best benefits such as cash back or miles rewards programs. Also, if someone has other credit cards with higher interest rates, they can often transfer balances and "consolidate" them onto a single credit card with a lower interest rate, therefore lowering their monthly payment, costs and in essence, making the card a "consolidation credit card".
