If Nestle had launched an education program that taught the women in third world countries they marketed baby formula to about how to properly use the formula and the danger of misusing it in their native language, they might have avoided controversy. They also should have used a different marketing strategy than giving out free samples of formula, which made the mothers and babies dependent on it.

As the world's leading dedicated toy and baby products retailer, we understand the trust parents place in us to ensure the safety of the products we sell and to provide only the safest shopping environment for them and their families. We take that responsibility very seriously. One of the important parts of our mission as a company is to help parents keep their kids safe. We fulfill this mission by working vigilantly on behalf of our customers to look for ways to raise the bar on product safety in our stores. We have put in place industry-leading product safety standards that meet and exceed federally mandated requirements. In addition, we provide the resources parents, grandparents and childcare providers need to ensure they have the most up-to-date information on product safety and recalls. Beyond product safety, we strive to make available the necessary information and products to help parents and caregivers prevent accidental injuries - one of the leading causes of death in children under the age of 14. We do this by partnering with organizations like Safe Kids Worldwide to develop tips and guides, and ensuring that our merchandise assortment includes products and equipment like bike helmets and elbow and knee pads. At Toys"R"Us, Inc., we love kids and babies, and our commitment to their safety is non-negotiable. You can be sure that at every turn, we will continue to look for ways to fulfill our commitment to the safety of the families we serve.
An advertisement with emotive appeal is playing upons it's targets emotions. Like when a baby nappy add shows a mother and baby happy together, the target audience would be mother's with babies, and it would be playing upon the mother's emotions to make her baby happy, healthy and safe. An advertisement with rational appeal using it's targets logic to sell it's product. An example would be a budget air line showing a graph with its average cost per ticket compared to unnamed popular airline and showing that their tickets are drastically cheaper.
Children under the age of 12 who get their parents or grandparents to buy the toy.
If Nestle did not push their product in nations where water safety is an issue, the whole thing could have been avoided. By telling mothers that their formula is healthier, they are causing mothers not to breastfeed. when the water is not purified, babies are at risk. They are not at risk bc breastmilk is safe.
