If it is coming from the rear it is most likely the rear axle. The pinion bearing in the rear end of these cars are knows for roaring. I have seen cars with 25,000 miles on them roar loudly. Mine has done it since I bought it 30,000 miles ago. Nothing to worry about.
I would recommend you have the lube checked in the rear end to make sure it is not low. You might want to consider draining it and replacing the lube with 100% synthetic lube.

If you have the metric trans, the pump is in the top of trans body, near to the engine. You must remove trans to get at the pump.
