What could be a lump in your armpit if you mess with it swells and is irritable and sore but leave it alone it goes down almost completely and have had this for many years also feels like a knot?

Your arm pit has lymph glands that can become swolen and sore if you are fighting a virus like a cold. Another possibility is a blocked pore or sweat gland. Some deodorants can cause this especially if applied dirrectly after shaving.
It can also be a sebaceous cyst or a carbuncle. If there is any foul-smelling or green or yellow drainage, or the center gets dark or black, get to the doctor. It will need draining , removal and/ or antibiotics .
