I can honestly say - in the 7 years I've been using Answers - that it has NEVER crashed on me. The problem is more likely your internet connection, or some other 'outside influence'.
A connection failure is were you have a problem with your Internet connection. You just need to reconnect your laptop/computer.
Statement of the problem about antivirus
We have just has that problem. What you can do is to ask a friend who has got an internet connection to download a free antivirus (Malwarebytes was the one we used), instead of them running it ask them to choose the save option, and get them to load the installation file onto a CD. You can then run the installation from the CD on your PC. We had a particulalrly nasty virus/trojan that called itself Personal Antivirus. Our Antivirus (which was AVG) could not deal with it but the latest update of MAlwarebytes did do so; so make sure your friend gets the latest version.
If the problem is restricted to auto update go to the website and download the update patch directly to install. Alternatively if the connection is on in the Safe mode assuming it is a PC try to update. More importantly go to a reputable forum and get your computer cleaned. There might be some other casue for this problem. Cheers

define the problem
It means that the connection to the Internet is not consistant. This may be caused by a loose wire or other connection, some other hardware problem, or if your connection is shared, there may be enough traffic going through the connection that your machine isn't able to maintain a solid connection to a machine outside of the network.
