Most Fords have a fuel pump cutoff switch that will shut the electric fuel pump off in the event of a hard enough jolt or collision if the car will not restart try resetting the shutoff switch. Right on the money BMAN, look on the left rear of the car, behind a panel.
fuel pump, carby,
Try to determine whether problem is fuel starvation or electrical (could be a bad coil)
some of the wiring may not have been hooked up right
For sure your cv joint is bad, and that can get expensive, my subaru has that problem right now, was quoted at least $500 to fix because it messes with the alignment and tire wear and other wear. expensive. I now have a 90 ford escort, with a dead battery at the moment. The grinding noise could be a wheel bearing. also replaced those before.
If its making a horrible grinding noise, it could be the bearing!
I have a 1992 Escort, and it starts doing that right around the time it needs its 30,000 mile check-up.
on the 89 ford escort it should be on right hand wheel well.
It could be a bearing going out on the timing belt, or one of the accessory drives such as the power steering, a/c, etc. I had the same problem and it turned out to be the intake gasket.
The vibration while the car is idle could be a sign that the rubber in the engine or powertrain mounts are wearing out. I went to 2 different shops and was told that the vibration was normal, but the 3rd shop pointed out the problem right a way and replaced 2 of the 4 mounts. After that my car was so silent at idle I thought it stalled.
i think the biggest engine you could fit in a 1993 ford escort gt 1.8 is a 1998 ford escort zx2 2.0 turbo engine with intake manifold and coilovers to get hp that you can actually manage in the car. but then you would have to completely redo the wiring harness from a zx2 to a 93 escort and get the transmission from the zx2 to fit also in the 93 escort, with the right motor mounts youll be set.
There are a number of reasons why a 95 Cutlass would start then shut right off. The problem could be the fuel line going bad, the battery terminals could be dirty, or loose, or wires could be bad.
right under the motor
