You could be losing compression from your cylinders or your timing chain could be slipping. My chain broke and that was the first thing to occur. No power when applying the gas. could be a fuel pump not producing enough pressure. has the pressure to run the car but not enough to run properly under a load Does this only happen when you're low on fuel? (or maybe your gauge reads 1/4 of a tank?) If your gas gauge is like mine, and reads high, you might be running out of gas, even though the gauge tells you differently. I learned about my gas gauge problem the day I bought the car. I left for home, and it was running fine until I came up to a couple of overpasses. It started losing power, and wouldn't accelerate on them. I finally ran it up the mountain road near my house, to see what was going on. It eventually quit on me and I had to back down the road until I could find a place to turn around. I guessed could probably coast to the house, and actually that's what I did. When I got there, I put 2 gallons of gas in the tank and ran it up and down the mountain again about 3 times. Because it worked OK after putting in a little gas, I determined that my gauge was hosed. I now reset my tripmeter every time I fill up. I know that at about 310 miles, it's time to refuel. I've run the car low on gas since, and the first indication of that problem, is on an incline. I think I prayed it over that mountain pass one night on the way home from work. Once it got on the DOWN side of the mountain, it ran fine again. I'm posting a story I found online somewhere about 8 months ago. If it all posts, you might find it interesting; Why the fuel gauges in GM cars don't always work Company has part that can fix problem Ottawa says gauges don't pose a risk Dec.
Try the fuel pump, it may need to be replaced.

The 2003 Pontiac Sunfire came from the manufacturer equipped with 225 65R 15 tires. The back and the front tires were the same size.
No, it has a cam chain.
Probably the wrong bulbs or the brake lights are getting stuck "on". Or maybe a combination of the two. Check that you have the right bulbs and check to make sure something isn't keeping the brake lights on. FriPilot
