Can you take coumadin and robitussin dm?

You can take over the counter Robitussin safely. The DM syrup does not have anything like aspirin or an NSAID drug in it. Coumadin will not interact with the DM Robitussin. When taking coumadin, what you want to watch out for over the counter are NSAIDS - Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs. These drugs can cause blood thinning also. Check the ingredients list before you take over the counter drugs with Coumadin.

Does coumadin cause fluid retention?

After being on 8mg Coumadin for 3 months I have retained fluid in both upper eyelids. Have also gained abt 3 kilos despite following the same diet. Although there does not seem to be any mention of this as a side effect I feel sure it is the Wafarin. Will only really be able to confirm when I stop taking it in 2 months?

Mixing aspirin and coumadin?

COUMADIN IS A POWERFUL prescription medication that acts as a BLOODTHINNER to prevent bloodclots and strokes. ASPIRIN also acts as a BLOODTHINNER. SO....unless your physician is a specialist and specifically tells you to take aspirin and Coumadin together, you should NEVER take these two medications together. What will happen is that your blood will lose it's ability to clot. You could suffer anything from a non-stop nosebleed, to internal bleeding. The higher the doses, the more dangerous it is. If you are taking these two together or think you should take them together, PLEASE contact your prescribing physician and your pharmacist AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Best to you.......

Can coumadin cause major weight gain?

I don't know exactly what you mean by "major" weight gain, but, I've been on coumadin for about 8 years now, and within the first 6 months of taking it I gained about 10 lbs. without changing my diet or exercise routine. I've tried to lose it, but it won't go away. I told my doc. this and he said that according to the 'experts' out there, coumadin doesn't cause weight gain. But, he also said that it was the only thing that could've caused it in me based on everything I've told him. He assured me it was most likely water weight instead of fat. Hope this helps!

What natural or prescription products have a direct effect on Coumadin?

ANY drug that is a BLOOD THINNER, including aspirin, should be used only on a doctors advice. Coumadin, when used with aspirin can cause excessive bleeding or lack of ability for blood to clot.

Can cranberry juice lower platelet levels?

No, not to my knowledge. However, cranberry can interact with warfarin (Coumadin), which is a blood thinner. The interaction has nothing to do with platelets; however, it is thought to increase warfarin's effectiveness (i.e. it will cause your INR to increase and may cause you to bleed). If you are taking warfarin, it would be advisable to either eat a consistant amount of cranberry or avoid it altogether.
