Check the water in your battery. Alot of people don't think of that because most don't know that a car battery holds water.
Bad/shorted battery? (doesn't not hold a charge)
usually means the battery simply won't hold charge. and won't charge full stop! get a new one
No, a fuse cannot cause a battery to not hold a charge. However a dead cell in the battery will cause it to run down overnight. Also there may be something on that is drawing power from the battery. Under-hood light, trunk light, dome light, glove box light, etc. Also a stuck relay will drain the battery.
Dead Battery. Are you sure your battery can maintain or hold a charge?
Well, It could be your battery or alternator or both needs to be replaced but it could just be loose or corroded battery cables
Old /defective battery that will not hold a charge? Hidden accessory left on i.e. trunk/glove box light? Defective voltage regulator not opening on shut down? Excessive parasytic electrical load? Alternator not charging battery sufficiently? Loose or corroded battery cables?
A battery that won't hold a charge has a dead cell and must be replaced. This is assuming there is not something on that is pulling power from the battery.
Could be an older battery that can't hold a charge any longer Could be loose or corroded battery cables not supplying a sufficient charge from alternator Could be a weak alternator not charging battery Could be excessive parasytic load drain to battery ( a fully charged battery should be able to hold a charge for 21 days of inactivity) Could be a hidden accessory left on draining battery (i.e. trunk light, glove box light, etc.) Could be a defective voltage regulator not opening on engine shut down draining battery.
Inside the alternator
Batteries do not last for ever and after about 3 years they need to be replaced. An old battery simply will not hold its charge. Therefore as a first step in chasing down your problem, get your battery tested.
Possible the battery is just too old, or it is damaged.
Depends on the condition of the battery. Most will hold a charge for at least 6 months if they are not connected to anything.
