Transmission could be adversly effected. Shifting problems can occur and worse case the transmission can be permantly damaged.
type f auto-trans fluid
on an automatic trans through dipstick tube
It may cause seals to fail and fluid to leak from the vent on the trans case. It may also cause converter/pump failure.
the trans fluid on a auto trans goes through a tube in the radiator to cool the fluid if the tube has holes in it, it will leak trans fluid in to radiator. you need to replace radiator or have rebuilt.or you could put on a aux trans cooler and put plugs where the trans lines used to go.
inside the trans. not a job for amatuer
Depends a bit on if it's a manual or automatic transmission. On a manual trans, you'd have to ride the clutch to get it started. And you'd probably glaze the clutch quite soon.On a manual trans, take-off would be slower but otherwise no big deal.Metal shavings from damaged parts could contaminate the trans fluid and further damage could happen.
auto or man? auto change trans filter and add new trans fluid I'd use lucis trans fluid. cable could be streached
On the bottom of the tranny catch pan. You will have to remove the gasket seal with 12 screws then the filter is right there.
If the transmission is low on fluid then the pump that circulates fluid through the transmission and gives it the hydraulic pressure that allows it to work will cease to function. If you are low/out of trans fluid you should empty it completely and change the trans pan gasket and trans filter while you are at it (usually less than $15 if you are doing it yourself). If you continue driving the vehicle without trans fluid it will break the transmission.
The fluid change could have caused sediment to move around which could have clogged the valve body, blocking the flow of fluid, i would drop the trans pan, clean it, change the trans filter, and put in quality high mileage fluid with an additive such as trans sea-foam. Also make sure the linkage on top of the trans moves when you shift gears, it could just be a broken trans linkage cable.
It could be. Some cars use auto trans fluid in the power steering system.
