According to estimates, 80 percent of Americans will experience low Back pain at least once in their lifetime. A small number of patients will develop chronic or degenerative spinal disorders that can be disabling. It could be muscles/cysts anything like that - you should see a Dr about this if you have pain or the knots do not go away - what were you doing when this happened - did you strain yourself lifting or anything? A Dr may send you for an MRI if they are concerned about the knots/lumps - this will help them determine what is really going on - don't mess with something like that if you are worried.
