Think of Mexico City as a combination of New York, Washington and Los Angeles; a huge city populated by 21.16 million, with many museums, landmarks, restaurants and night life. Some examples include the Castillo de Chapultepec Museum, the National Museum of Anthropology, the Templo Mayor Aztec ruins and many other museums throughout Mexico City, such as Frida Kahlo's Museum, Museo de Bellas Artes or Modern Arts Museum. Some parks include Chapultepec, Parque Lincoln or Parque Hundido. For souvenirs, Zona Rosa is the best; Santa Fe and several joints along the Insurgentes Avenue are good for their night life.
In short, to have a complete view of Mexico City, you would have to live there for several months.
