The island of Great Britain is comprised of three countries, which are England, Scotland and Wales. The neighbouring island of Ireland comprises of the Republic of Ireland (Eire) and the province called Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland together with the three countries in Great Britain form the nation called the United Kingdom.
Geographically, the British Isles are the main islands of Britain and Ireland and all of their off-shore islands. Politically, they are the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and the Republic of Ireland.
