Which form of government is better democracy or dictatorship explain why you believe one is better than the other?

Democracy is the form of government most highly valued in most countries. The reasons usually given are: influence of the people on the Parties and people who rule them through elections; laws that guarantee peoples' rights and that define and limit the power of those who rule and independent judges you can go to if you think you are treated unfairly by the Government. In a dictatorship there is no legal limit to the dictator's power or term of office and people have no influence on the Government's policies. It must be said that there are many countries who call themselves democracies and that have all the laws to protect peoples' rights and to guarantee independent courts of law that nevertheless really work as an almost-dictatorship. Examples are countries like Russia, several Muslim countries like Egypt and many African countries like Zimbabwe.
