The Central Powers during World War I were:

  • Germany
  • Austria-Hungary
  • The Ottoman Empire
  • Bulgaria (joined 1915 after the start of World War I)

*Originally Germany and Austria-Hungary formed the Triple Alliance with Italy, but Italy did not join them in the war and later fought against the Central Powers.

Another answer

In World War 1 the Central Powers were Germany, Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire. Italy was part of that alliance but, because it switched sides before the name changed from the Triple Alliance to the Central Powers, it is generally not considered to have been a Central Powers member.
