The Korean War never ended - the armistice only signaled a ceasefire, and the two countries remain at war. Since the signing of the armistice, there have been several incursions against South Korea by the DPRK (North Korea), as well as against foreign forces in the region (the raid on Camp Liberty Bell, the Panmunjom axe murders, the seizure of the USS Pueblo, etc).
Korea is a republic. Korea is not "part" of a country.
